Rocking the Boat

Paul Wilson told his impressive story about his life as a black police man and advocate in his brilliant memoir Rocking the Boat: A Superintendent's 30 Year Career Fighting Institutional Racism. I feel so honored to have been part of his entire journey: from writing the book proposal, to editing book chapters, to even being consulted during the promotion part of his publication journey!

Paul Wilson found me when he’d only written a few chapters of his memoir. He didn’t quite know what a publisher would look for in a book proposal so he was looking for some guidance. Since then, he’s shared his impressive story about his life as a black police man and advocate in his brilliant memoir Rocking the Boat: A Superintendent’s 30 Year Career Fighting Institutional Racism.

When he first found me, he wanted to collaborate on his book proposal for Rocking the Boat. And once he secured a book deal, we continued to work on editing the chapters in his book. I feel so honored to have been part of his publication journey. This still is a book that’s close to my heart. And it turns out this author appreciated our collaboration too!

In the Acknowledgements, Paul wrote:

I owe an enormous debt of gratitude to those who gave me detailed and constructive comments on one or more chapters, including Susanne Schotanus, Barbra Jones and Arial King. Thank you for your patience, advice and invaluable guidance.
