I get it – writing can be isolating

As a writing coach and editor, I have helped hundreds of authors achieve their potential. I’ve done this through manuscript evaluation and other services. But I also know how it can be hard to give your manuscript over to someone else – even a professional! Everyone knows about editors, but who do you talk to when you want to revise your work yourself?

That’s where a manuscript evaluation service comes in. I can give feedback and help you develop a plan to lift your text to the next level… You can do it yourself, but you don’t have to do it BY yourself.

I’d love to meet you and discuss how I can help you achieve all your writing goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

about the manuscript evaluation service

What will you give feedback on in a manuscript assessment?

What I will give feedback on in a manuscript assessment kind of depends on what text you send me. But in general, I’ll help you make your manuscript more effective, meaning I’ll help you make it do what you want it to do. If you want it to be convincing, I’ll show you how you can improve that. If you want it to be informative, I’ll tell you which parts might be too easy or too hard to understand.

I will not give feedback on grammar and spelling – except for those instances where you use a lot of crutch words. This manuscript assessment will mostly focus on structure and content instead.

Why would I need a professional manuscript evaluation service? C

Yes, you can absolutely evaluate your manuscript yourself. In fact, I bet you’ve been doing that all along! However, there are things that an external person will see that you’ll have missed. This is especially true for nonfiction and academic writing, where authors tend to know their subjects so well that they make leaps of logic that their audience might not be able to follow. A professional editor will be able to help you identify those, and give more or less information wherever it’s needed.

What does a manuscript assessment cost?

Because I won’t be making changes in your actual text, the manuscript evaluation service is cheaper than editing. You can find the manuscript assessment cost here or go to this page for my full price list

What's the difference between a manuscript assessment and a developmental edit?

The main and clearest difference is that in a manuscript evaluation, I write you a list of things to do to improve your text; whereas in a developmental edit I make the changes for you.

Both editing services are great for authors who want to make their text shorter or stronger. Which one is best for you, then, depends on your budget and how hands-on you’d like to be.

What's the difference between a manuscript assessment and an editorial review?

Long story short: within Passionate Writer Coaching there’s no difference at all. They are the same service.

Long story long: within the publishing industry, it sometimes feels like pretty much anyone who touches a manuscript is called an editor. You have editors who acquire manuscripts for publishing houses, editors who manage journals and magazines, freelance editors…

That means that the term “editorial review” – which I used to refer to my manuscript evaluation service until not too long ago – is incredibly confusing, as each of these types of editors have their own definitions of an editorial review. That’s why I decided to rename my service.

Evaluating your own manuscript can be hard!

As a writing coach and editor, I know how after writing (and maybe rewriting) for a while, writers often get stuck. Yes, it’s true, this is a common problem!

But that doesn’t always mean you want someone else to edit your text for you. All your good intentions, however, won’t help much without a plan to tackle your edits and revisions. But the question is: where do you even start?

The manuscript assessment will give you a personalized roadmap to help you realize your text’s potential yourself. With this manuscript evaluation service, I give you editorial feedback on your text but I won’t make any changes to your manuscript. Instead, I’ll give you feedback in the form of a list of tasks to complete to lift your manuscript to the next level.
